OBJECTIVE: To develop confidence and control when handling a basketball.

EQUIPMENT: Basketballs, Cones, Marker spots, Bibs, Larger or softer balls for adaptation

SETUP: One ball per pupil where possible.

MAKE HARDER: Ball around waist. · Ball around head. · Ball around knees. · Figure-eight through legs. · Toss and catch. · Bounce and catch.

SEND: Space: Reduce movement distance. · Space: Give pupils their own clearly marked working space. · Task: Use seated ball-control activities. · Equipment: Use larger or softer balls.

FROM: Dribbling

OBJECTIVE: To dribble with control while changing speed and direction.

EQUIPMENT: Basketballs, cones, floor markers, bibs

SETUP: Pupils dribble around the area. On a whistle or visual signal they freeze — stopping, protecting the ball and adopting ready position.

MAKE HARDER: Right hand. · Left hand. · Change hand on signal. · Change speed.

SEND: Space: Increase gate width. · Task: Walk rather than run. · Task: Use fewer direction changes. · Equipment: Use larger ball.
