PE Fitness Challenges

Free PE fitness challenges and HIIT activities for primary and secondary — 60-second challenges, circuits and fitness tests with progress tracking.

Fitness challenges work because progress is visible: 12 star jumps becomes 18, and pupils chase their own number. These challenges — 60-second tests, circuits and HIIT stations — are free to use, with retest intervals built in so improvement becomes the lesson.

Sports I records every result automatically, tracks improvement across the year, and turns the data into progress reports parents and PE leads can actually read.

FREE ACTIVITY OF THE DAY

Four-Corner Fitness

KS2 10 minutes 4 cones

A four-station circuit in one small space — the challenge class that needs nothing but cones and a stopwatch.

Set-up: Place 4 cones in a square, one exercise per corner: jump squats, mountain climbers, shuttle sprints, plank hold.

How to play

  1. 140 seconds at each corner, 20 seconds to move clockwise to the next.
  2. 2Pupils count their own reps or hold time and remember (or note) their score.
  3. 3Complete two full laps with a 1-minute water break between.
  4. 4Repeat the circuit weekly — same stations, new personal bests.

Teaching points

  • Form before speed — one quality repetition beats three rushed ones.
  • Personal bests only: nobody's score is read aloud except by choice.

Questions teachers ask

Are fitness challenges suitable for primary pupils?

Yes, when they're bodyweight-based, short and personal-best focused. Keep work intervals to 30–60 seconds, teach form first, and never compare pupils publicly.

How often should we retest fitness?

Every 6 weeks is the sweet spot — long enough to show real change, short enough to keep motivation high.
