INTERNATIONAL PE QUALITY REVIEW CHECKLIST

PE programme self-review — your school, your terminology

CURRICULUM

  • A written PE curriculum maps every year group and term
  • Progression is clear from unit to unit and year to year
  • Swimming and water safety are planned where applicable
  • Curriculum coverage is reviewed against what is actually taught

ASSESSMENT

  • A consistent assessment scale is used by every PE teacher
  • Assessment is recorded against clear criteria, not impressions
  • Moderation happens between staff at least annually
  • Assessment data informs planning — not just reporting

INCLUSION

  • Every pupil can access the PE curriculum, including pupils with additional needs
  • Adaptations are planned, not improvised
  • Inclusion practice follows the school's own terminology and policies
  • Participation is tracked for pupils who need extra support

PARTICIPATION

  • Unique pupils participating are known — not just attendance totals
  • Clubs and activities are visible to families
  • Non-participants are identified and actively encouraged
  • Leadership opportunities exist for pupils, not only elite performers

SCHOOL SPORT

  • Fixtures, competitions and events are recorded with dates and venues
  • Competition levels (internal to international) are clear
  • House systems and sports days are planned and evidenced
  • Results are recorded — and celebrated — without public ranking of pupils

CPD

  • Staff PE confidence is known, not assumed
  • A CPD plan targets actual confidence gaps
  • CPD impact is checked in lessons, not just attendance sheets
  • New staff get PE induction

PARENT REPORTING

  • Families receive at least one written PE report per year
  • Reports use positive, developmental language
  • Reports are timely and in families' language where needed
  • Families know how to support PE at home
