FREE ACTIVITY OF THE DAY
Name Move Mixer
A perfect first-week or cover-lesson game: every pupil moves, every pupil learns a name, and you learn who needs support with coordination.
Set-up: Mark out a large open space. Pupils stand scattered around, well spaced apart.
How to play
- 1Each pupil thinks of a movement (star jump, spin, lunge, high knees) and says their name with it.
- 2On 'go', everyone walks around the space calling other pupils' names as they greet them.
- 3When you call 'Mix!', everyone performs the movement of the last pupil they greeted, then finds someone new.
- 4Every 2 minutes, pause and ask for a new volunteer to teach the class their move — the mixer grows each round.
Teaching points
- Keep the pace light — this is a social game that doubles as a mobility warm-up.
- Use it as your baseline observation: movement quality, confidence, who hovers at the edge.
